Assault Response & Care
Centre offers 2 - 10 week (Spring and Winter) Women's Groups each
year.
ARCC Women's Support Group is a
psycho-educational support group for survivors of sexual
assault/abuse and/or domestic violence. Topics are chosen by
the participants. Members share, explore and creatively
process information about how to better cope with the impact of the
traumatic events they have experienced.
Group participants benefit from best practice
methods to strengthen independence and coping skills, decreasing the
stigma of victimization, social isolation and reliance on
professional intervention.
Previous participants' comments about the groups are:
"I think it's definitely about
the stigma, shame and doubt. But once you start going, you
start looking forward to going, it's just a matter of getting
going."
"The counsellors were excellent,
but for my own personal perspective, it was definitely the peers who
gave me my light bulb moments. I would recommend it, and I was
a big sceptic?"
Other groups and workshops that have been offered
are:
-
Healthy Relationships
-
Growing Up Again
-
Healing Arts Workshops
Watch this website for updates on groups we will be
offering.
The Next Women's Group begins Wednesday, Oct.
12, 2011.
